       The
Divine Liturgy of our Father among the Saints
 John Chrysostom
 Of
the four Eucharistic Liturgies in use in the Orthodox Churches today,
by far the most important is that of St John Chrysostom. The following
is the public part of that Liturgy, following the Preparation, which is
carried out secretly, as it represents that part of the Life of Christ
which was concealed from public knowledge. The Divine Liturgy symbolises
the Life of Christ, from His first public preaching through to the Crucifixion,
the Resurrection, the Ascension and the Sending of the Holy Spirit from
        the Father. It
should be noted that when a Bishop or a Deacon serve the Liturgy, there
are a number of additions to the text below. Also, certain parts of the
Liturgy are variable, for example the Antiphons and the Hymns for the
Day. These are not given below. Neither is given the text of those prayers
of intercession which concern the priest, nor is given the full text of
the Eucharistic Canon which, traditionally, is read secretly in honour
of its mystical content. Otherwise, that which follows is a fair guide
to the normal manner in which the Divine Liturgy is served throughout
most of the Orthodox world, although some Greek parishes do make certain
        small abbreviations. Priest
The Priest prayeth secretly, calling on the Holy Spirit:Blessed
is the Kingdom of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,

		God, the only-begotten, begotten of the Father before all ages. Light of Light;
true God of true God; begotten, not made; of one essence with the Father, by
whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down
from heaven, and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and
became man. And He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered,
and was buried. And the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures,
and ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father; and He shall
come again with glory to judge the living and the dead; whose Kingdom shall have
no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life, who proceeds
from the Father; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and
glorified; who spoke by the prophets. In one Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic
Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins. I look for the

heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses,

Of Thy Mystical Supper, O Son of God, accept me today as a partaker; for
I will not speak of the Mystery to Thine enemies, nor will I give Thee
a kiss like Judas like Judas; but like the thief do I confess Thee: Remember

Let not the communion of Thy holy Mysteries be unto me for judgement or

Priest O Lord, Who blessest those who bless
Thee, and hallowest those who trust in Thee: Save Thy people and bless
Thine inheritance. Preserve the fullness of Thy Church. Hallow those who
love the beauty of Thy house; do Thou glorify them in return by Thy divine
power, and forsake us not who put our hope in Thee. Give peace to Thy
world, to Thy churches, to the priests, to all Thy people. For every good
gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from Thee, the
Father of Lights, and unto Thee do we send up glory, and thanksgiving,
and worship: to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now
